Which one fits which situation

Quick answer

The Audient EVO 4 and the Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD are both USB audio interfaces with two inputs and two outputs. Audient lists 2 analogue input channels and 2 analogue output channels, and Behringer calls its model a 2 input, 2 output USB recording interface.

Audient publishes more measurements and lists loopback. Behringer lists 24-Bit/192 kHz converters, inputs that each take a microphone, an instrument or a line level source, and a Direct Monitor switch.

So the question is whether you need to route audio between programs on your computer, or whether a simple two-input setup covers what you record.

Choose Audient EVO 4 if

  • You want loopback: Audient says its audio loopback feature can be configured via its own dedicated audio loopback mixer software. Behringer's page in our sources does not list loopback.
  • You want published preamp figures: Audient lists a mic gain range of 58dB and a dynamic range of 113dB A-weighted. It gives the mic EIN as less than -128dBu.
  • You want to know size and weight before you buy: Audient lists a weight of 360g and dimensions of 140mm (w) x 67mm (h) x 67mm (d).
  • You want a USB Type-C connector with a 1m USB 2.0 Type-C to USB Type-A cable in the box.

Choose Behringer U-PHORIA UMC202HD if

  • You want each input to take a microphone, an instrument or a line level source: Behringer lists 2 combination XLR/TRS inputs.
  • You want a Direct Monitor switch on the unit, with a phones output that has its own level control.
  • You want stated converter specs: Behringer lists 24-Bit/192 kHz converters.
  • You want TRS output jacks: Behringer lists ¼" TRS Output jacks.

By use case

Podcasting

Each has two microphone preamps. Audient says it packs two EVO Mic preamps, and Behringer lists Midas-designed mic preamps on a 2 input, 2 output interface.

Audient says its loopback mixer lets you combine audio sources and route them between software. Behringer's page in our sources does not list loopback.

Test your call program with your interface before the first recording.

Vocals

Both supply phantom power for condenser microphones. Audient lists Phantom Power: 48v, and Behringer lists +48 Volt phantom power for condenser microphones.

Audient lists a mic gain range of 58dB and a maximum input level of +16dBu. Behringer's page in our sources does not state a gain range.

Guitar

Audient lists a D.I gain range of 58 dB and a D.I input impedance of 1MegΩ Unbalanced.

Behringer says its combination XLR/TRS inputs take instruments as well as microphones and line level sources.

Set the input to instrument level when you plug in a guitar, and watch the level before you record.

What the specs do not tell you

Our sources for the EVO 4 do not state MIDI in/out, onboard DSP effects or a warranty duration.

Behringer's page in our sources gives no dynamic range, gain range, power source, size or weight for its model.

Audient lists a mic frequency response of +/-0.5dB 10Hz to 40kHz and a maximum output level of +11dBu.

A spec sheet cannot show how the controls feel or how the drivers behave on your computer, so try your full setup soon after it arrives.
