What is an online voice recorder?
An online voice recorder is a web page that records sound from your microphone without installing anything. This one uses your browser’s built-in recorder, shows the input level while you speak, and lets you pause, play the take back and save it. You can download a WAV file or the format your browser recorded. The audio stays on your device.
How it works
Step 1
Pick a microphone
Choose an input, and leave browser voice processing off for music or turn it on for speech. Press Start recording and allow the microphone when the browser asks.
Step 2
Record
Watch the level meter and the clock. Pause and Resume keep the take in one piece. Press Stop when you are done, or press Space while the panel has focus.
Step 3
Play and download
Play the take back in the page, then download it as a 16-bit WAV file or in the format your browser recorded.
Questions
Is my recording uploaded?
No. The audio is recorded in this browser tab and kept in your device's memory. It is not sent to 12notez or anyone else, and a download is made on your device.
Which download should I pick, WAV or the original format?
WAV is uncompressed 16-bit PCM, which every audio editor opens. The original format is what your browser recorded, with no conversion: the button names it, for example WebM with Opus in Chrome or MP4 in Safari. It is usually much smaller than WAV.
How long can I record?
This page sets no time limit. The take stays in your device's memory until you download it, so very long takes depend on your device. For size: one minute of mono audio at 48 kHz is 5.5 MB as WAV.
Why does my voice sound processed or quiet?
Browsers can apply echo cancellation, noise suppression and automatic gain to the microphone. The switch asks the browser to use them or not. A browser or device may ignore the request, and the page tells you what the browser reported for the take.
The browser says the microphone is blocked. What now?
Click the lock or camera icon in the address bar, allow the microphone for this site, and press Start recording again. If no microphone is found, plug one in and check that your system has not disabled it.
Privacy: what runs where
- Audio is recorded and held in this browser tab. The page never uploads it.
- The WAV file is built in your browser from the take, and both downloads are saved straight to your device.
- The microphone turns off when you press Stop or leave the page.
- An unsaved take is lost when you close the tab, so the browser asks before you leave.
